Sam, grandson of former Jamberoo and Goulburn residents Ken and Pat Robson who have both passed away in recent years, and son of Jim who is manager of the indoor centre manager at the SCG, has been selected to open the batting for England when they take on Sri Lanka at Lords tonight (midnight Thursday) after starring for several years with Middlesex in the English Country season.
Robson, just a week short of his 25th birthday, will open the batting with English captain Alistair Cook, having qualified to play with the England as his mother is English.
He will be Cook's fourth opening partner since the retirement of Andrew Strauss.
