The first stage of the renovations include new bar, gaming and reception areas.
General manager David Rootham said the work should involve only a minor change to services. Temporary bar facilities will be set up before major work begins.
"I have told members that it will be just like camping out," Mr Rootham said.
"But at the end of this stage, which will take around 14 weeks, members will have a beautiful new bar, gaming and reception area and while we realise that there will be significant disruption in the short-term, it will be well worth it in the end.
"The end product will be a truly beautiful venue."
The project will be managed by Meridian, with a lot of the work done by local contractors.
Mr Rootham said it had been important to the club to use local contractors on a large part of the project.
The first stage of the project will cost between $850,000 and $860,000 plus a few bits-and-pieces, and the club hoped that they might be able to look at stage two, which will include the kitchen and dining facilities, in winter 2016.
"We looked at the overall cost of the three stages in one and we weren't sure the club could sustain the cost, but we are trading strongly, with our figures up around 22 per cent on the first quarter last year, which we needed, going into the renovation period.
"The figures are pleasing, but the hospitality industry is so competitive and being out of the CBD, we have to have something here that will make people want to come out of their homes to visit us."
