The nomination period has been extended until 3pm on Friday, March 14, with Mr Docherty concerned clubs might not be aware of the awards night and the prizes available.
"With the Sports Assistance Fund celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, we are keen to make sure we get as many people as possible involved to make the Sports Star night a massive success and to do that we need more nominees.
"We have such a diverse range of sports people in the municipality and it would be a shame if we missed anyone who deserves to be recognised.
"We will have our original chairman John O'Dwyer OAM in attendance as well as our first winner, archer Eric Klein," Mr Docherty said. "Former Wollongong Hawks legend Glen Savill will be our MC, while our special guests will include some of rugby league's most recognisable faces, Beau Ryan, Trent Merrin and Trent Barrett." The awards were launched at The Shellharbour Club last week.
