In Division 1 Boys Minnamurra 1 played Albion Park 1.
The first set saw Will Lewis from Albion Park get off to a good start to hold his own serve and break that of Zac Parker. However Zac soon settled into the set to take the next three games to lead 3-2 before going on to take the set 6-3. Cassie Wallace extended Minnamurra’s lead taking the second set from Sarah Mathieson 6-3. Will then reduced the lead to only 1 game by defeating Cassie 6-1. Zac got Minnamurra back on track with 6-3 win over Sarah and then Zac and Cassie showed their doubles skills with a convincing 6-1 win giving Minnamurra the match 4sets 25 games to Albion Park’s 1 set 16 games.
The Minnamurra 1 girls team was not as successful in their match with Jamberoo 1. Vanessa Sporne got Jamberoo off to a flying start with 6-1 win over Madi Michel. Chloe Aubin extended Jamberoo’s lead by coming from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Michalie Greenwell 6-3. Madi then brought Minnamurra back into the match with a 6-3 win over Chloe but Vanessa sealed the result with a strong 6-0 win over Michalie. The Minnamurra girls rallied to take the doubles in a hard-fought 6-5 set. However Jamberoo 3 sets 26 games to Minnamurra’s 2 sets 16 games.
In Division 4 Boys the Gerringong team of James Wilcox And Bradley Schmidt proved too strong for Matthew Barnes and Luke Arthur from Oak Flats 2. James defeated Matthew 6-1 and Brad beat Luke 6-0 and then rounded off the match with a 6-1 win in the doubles giving Gerringong 4 the match 3 sets 16 games to 0 sets 2 games.
In Division 5 Oak Flats 3’s Sean Linde and Tyler Clements hosted Eden Hendricks and Peter Chayna from Albion Park 2. The first set between Sean and Eden was a close match with Eden racing to a 5-1 lead before Sean fought back to 5-4. Eden then rallied to take the last game and the set 6-4. Peter continued the good work to defeat Tyler 6-0. However the Oak Flats pair were not finished and won the doubles in a close 6-5 set giving Albion Park 2 the match 2 sets 17 games to Oak Flats 3 1 set 10 games.
In Division 6 Jamberoo 3 met Oak Flats 6. Filling in on the day for Jamberoo, Kiama’s Jack Dobson got Jamberoo off to a good start with a 6-2 win over Sam Jordan. Sun Karunalai also defeated his opponent Thomas Jordan 6-2 The Jamberoo pair also took the doubles 6-3 giving Jamberoo the match sets 18 games to 0 sets 7 games.
The Men’s Winter/Spring Night Comp began last Wednesday/Thursday night. We have 30 teams comprising 5 divisions which is comparable to most Sydney Associations. Round one results were as follows:
