Kiama Greens convener and former councillor Howard Jones said all Greens members and independent candidates with environmental and social justice values were invited to hear more about previous councils' achievements.
"We'll also highlight the challenges the council faces - we're particularly concerned about undermining the protection of agricultural land even with the new LEP and Urban Strategy," he said.
"There was a lot of pressure to add extra land (for development) at Gerringong and Jamberoo - the council resisted but the councillors weren't unanimous and there were some amendments.
"If there was a change in makeup, we could get a council with the majority view that there should be more houses on Gerringong farmland - we have to let the community know it's not done and dusted."
Mr Jones said encouraging food security and supporting cultural events were among the Greens' other strengths.
"When councils get stressed, social and cultural proposals are easy to knock off, but it's one of the things we fight strongly for," he said.
"We also tend to be sticklers for the rules because they've been worked out on behalf of the community."
Mr Jones said the Greens' preselection would open in June and all five places on the ticket were available - at least one of the councillors elected in 2008 will be replaced, with councillor Ben van der Wijngaart still in New Zealand working on the carbon-neutral Atamai Village development.
Mr Jones said past councillors were known for their honesty and well-researched opinions.
"What you find is that the more effort you put in, the more benefits you get out as the result of your work," he said.
The Kiama Greens forum will be held at the Kiama CWA Hall, 70 Shoalhaven Street, Kiama this Sunday, May 20 at 2pm.
