After participating in the competition last year, Bronwyn was confident of her chances going into this year’s event.
“I was never cocky going into the competition, but I knew what was required of me and I was confident that I could do it,” she said.
During the competition the cadets are judged on a number of different areas.
“The judges look at our uniforms and how we present ourselves and we have to march in front of them as well as give some speeches and interviews,” Bronwyn said.
While Bronwyn may not have been certain that she was going to take out the title, there were others that were.
“We’re all over the moon, I’ve been involved in the Air League for 22 years and she’s one of the best cadets I’ve seen come through,” Albion Park Air League Squadron Commander Lynn King said.
“Before the competition her mother was a bit nervous, but I kept telling her that I knew she’d win and not to worry about it and she definitely came through with flying colours this year.”
While winning the competition is exciting in its own right, Bronwyn had even more reason to celebrate.
“She’s actually the youngest cadet to ever win the competition which is exciting, even with her age we were still confident she could do it,” Ms King said.
While Bronwyn has always been interested in aircraft, she would encourage anybody to join the Air League.
“I’ve always been interested in planes and my dream is to become a pilot, and in the Air League we learn a lot about planes and how they work and get the chance to fly in some but we also do other things such as community service and take part in things like Wings Over the Illawarra and Anzac Day services,” she said.
Air League Cadets is open to children aged 8 - 18 and more information can be found at the www.airleague.com.au website.
