Shadow Minister for Water Walter Secord and Shellharbour MP Anna Watson recently visited residents of Koona Bay and surrounds.
Kris Gardener, who lives on the shores of Lake Illawarra said although she had experienced issues for more than a decade, raw sewage overflowing into her backyard had become a regular occurrence during the past six months.
Residents say it is worse during heavy rains, and in wet weather wastewater ends up in the lake.
“If the lid [next to her property] blows, it shoots sewage out,” Mrs Gardener said.
“It’s an old system, but can’t take it, especially with more people moving in.
“There would be 15 other households around
