Defence confirmed the Australian Federal Police and the Defence Force Investigative Service are looking into the allegation, which was made last night on Channel Ten.
The woman said she had sex with a fellow first-year cadet, but was horrified to find out from other cadets the man had left a webcam on, allowing others to watch. She said pictures taken from the footage were also being shared around the academy.
''You see it on the TV … that these things happen but until it happens to you, you don't actually believe that these things happen,'' said the woman, whose identity was concealed.
The allegation is the latest blow to a Defence Force reeling from a series of unsavoury incidents.
A recent commission of inquiry found that a ''tribal'' group of senior sailors on HMAS Success engaged in predatory sexual and drunken misconduct during a deployment to Asia in 2009.
Last month two sailors were killed in a car crash near the HMAS Cerberus naval base in Victoria. Senior police said alcohol may have been involved. Two weeks ago, another investigation was launched after Australian soldiers in Afghanistan posted racist messages on Facebook.
