Glenn Haworth, of Haworth Guitars, knows music has many proven health benefits and wants to do something to help Illawarra's youth, so he is providing an opportunity for six young people to start their musical journey at no cost.
"We are giving away six guitar and lesson packs to young people aged 12-25 and letting the community nominate who should win them," Mr Haworth said.
"As a community-born family business, we have our local community to thank for the encouragement and support we have received during this difficult time.
"In combination with this, we are fortunate to have music around us as a means of expression.
"This creative outlet is a fantastic way to work out emotions and express them in the healthiest form with proven benefits such as enhanced brain function, improved language and math skills, increased memory, attention, and concentration, increased goal achievement and self-discipline and improved Social skills."
The Haworth Youth Resilience initiative is specifically focused on youth facing isolation and stresses that are new to them.
Mr Haworth is encouraging people to go onto the Haworth website and nominate a young member of the community aged between 12 and 25 they believe would benefit from the gift of music.
"Haworth Guitars will select six local youth members to receive an acoustic guitar and a guitar lesson with the Haworth Music School, to sponsor the beginning of their musical journey."
