The wildlife carer has been rescuing native animals and nursing them back to health for more than a decade.

She copped a spray for her efforts last week in Kiama.

While trying to rescue magpies tangled in fishing line, Ms Spilsted said she was disgusted by the behaviour of a dog-walker.

"We were at the Holiday Haven caravan park - it's clearly signposted as closed due to COVID-19 regulations," she said.

"Wildlife carers are allowed to be out for the purpose of rescuing wildlife.

"A man parked his car under the closed sign and got out with his dog and came through the park. When I told him he was trespassing he just went berserk."

The man left after another wildlife carer at the scene said she would call police.

Ms Spilsted reported the incident to the local council, but said she wanted people to show more respect for COVID-19 regulations, and for each other.

"It's not on," she said.

"I was driving down from Wollongong every day for a fortnight to save those magpies.

"You don't want a pat on the back, but you don't want to be abused by a young upstart either."
