Saxophonist Nick Russoniello was performing on the Diamond Princess when the cruise ship was quarantined for two weeks after passengers onboard were diagnosed with the contagious virus.
Although Nick is due to leave the ship on Wednesday, February 19 he will be subject to a further two-week quarantine in Australia as the Federal Government was concerned the cruise ship's quarantine was not run effectively.
It means he would still be in quarantine when he was scheduled to perform with guitarist Murilo Tanouye at Gerringong Town Hall on Sunday, March 1.
We've been lucky, we haven't had many cancellations but this one is most unusual.
- Publicity officer Gillian Spooner
Gerringong Music Club publicity officer Gillian Spooner said she was devastated when they received an email about the cancellation.
"I'm just at the post office trying to get some labels to stick onto all my posters everywhere," she said.
"There are so many different people involved in putting on the concert so it's quite a problem calling it all off.
"We've been lucky, we haven't had many cancellations but this one is most unusual."
Musician Nick Russoniello had only boarded the cruise ship on January 27 to play two sets when the outbreak happened on the Diamond Princess. The ship was then placed into quarantine on February 5 in a port near Tokyo.
Although Nick has not tested positive to Coronavirus, of the 2,666 guests and 1,045 crew, 542 people on the ship have been diagnosed with the virus.
Australians onboard were offered a chartered flight to the Northern Territory, where they would be stuck for 14 days in a former construction workers' village at Howard Springs, just outside of Darwin.
Anyone from the ship not on the flight was told they would be refused entry to Australia during the next two weeks.
