The NYSF Year 12 Program is a 10-day residential program designed to give students a broader understanding of the diverse study and career options available in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and to encourage continued studies in these fields.
With the support of Rotary clubs across Australia, students in Year 11 apply to attend the NYSF Year 12 Program.
If appropriate, Rotary district panels endorse students for selection, following an interview.
At our recent meeting we welcomed back our 2020 National Youth Science Forum students, Harry Sloan and Hugo Ikeda to report on the NYSF forums.
Unfortunately, Hugo's forum at ANU in Canberra was cancelled because of the bushfires.
Harry's forum at the UOQ (Brisbane) did go ahead, and he reported that it was a fantastic experience, exposing him to a range of exciting science issues and allowing him to make some great new friends. "I found heaps of people who think just like I do," Harry said.
Both of our forum representatives were most impressive NYSF attendees and were thankful for the opportunity to take part.

They were obviously superior candidates, as thousands apply for the forums each year, but only 600 are selected.
Well done to both of them and we wish them well in their chosen careers.
Both young men were appreciative of our club's support and especially that of Youth Director Errol Chopping, and his team.
Applications for the program are open from March 1 to May 31, each year.
Rotary Youth Service also recognises the importance of empowering youth and young professionals through leadership development programs such as Rotaract, Interact, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards and Rotary Youth Exchange.
