The devastating bushfires have touched us all and much public fund-raising and support has already been provided to victims. Many Lions clubs, including Kiama, have made donations to the Australian Lions Foundation from funds already raised from the public through barbeques and other normal activities. Following the previous Tathra fires our Lions District N2, which covers most of the recent fire-damaged areas, has used that experience to establish a structure that will ensure that local Lions in affected areas will have input so that emergency funds are optimally directed.
The Australian Lions Foundation has provided a grant totalling $250,000 for relief in our District (N2) and also in Gippsland (V3). The website of the Australian Lions Foundation provides full details as to how you can directly assist Lions through its National Appeal - Bushfires. Such donations of $2+ are tax deductible and you can be certain that the cash made available through Lions in the affected fire-ravaged areas will be delivered to those needing the most assistance.
KIAMA ROTARY CLUB
The Rotary Club of Kiama was chartered in 1952 with 28 charter members. One of the earlier projects was to create a parkland near the famous Blowhole and, later, to develop unique stone wall town markers to each of the villages which make up the Municipality.
All aspects of Rotary Service have been undertaken and supported by Kiama Rotarians working with the local community. Club members have undertaken overseas volunteer service and the Club provides substantial financial and moral assistance to international and local charities from our various fundraising ventures.
The Rotary Club of Kiama has over 40 active male and female members and is involved in many varied local and international projects.
Why not come and join us? It is not always serious business; we also have a lot of fun and fellowship at the same time! We meet each Monday at the Kiama Leagues Club in Terralong Street Kiama at 6:30pm for 7:00pm. Guests are most welcome.
