In 2017, the NSW Government announced it would invest $4.5 million into the Minamurra boardwalk.
After spending about $600,000 on engineers and environmental studies, Kiama Council said the cost of the project would be closer to $9.5 million.
In March 2019 the council was in doubt as to whether the project would proceed.
On October 29, a council spokesperson said they had resolved to continue with the project, but would need to seek further funding from the NSW Government, and an extension to the timeline of the project.
Mr Ward said he was surprised by the request for extra funds.
"Kiama Council applied for a $4.5 million grant, which I delivered," he said.
"I am surprised they have asked for another $4.5 million - I don't beleive inflation has been 100 per cent over the past couple of years.
"I think the council has to reconsider the scope of the prject."
