The Barrack Heights Public School teacher has played for the premiership-winning first grade Wollongong Wolves side.

The team became National Premier League champions of Australia after defeating the Queensland Lions FC 4-3.

He said the secret to the side's success was hard work, a professional attitude and an inspirational coach.

And a bit of backing from his students doesn't hurt, either.

"You work hard all year, four or five sessions a week, and to finish like that makes it all worth it," he said.

"A few of the kids from school come out and watch regularly too, which is awesome. They're very supportive, they were over the moon when we won."

As if winning a national premiership wasn't enough for one year, Taylor will fly to China on November 19 to represent Oceania in the World Uni Games.

He said he was looking forward to experiencing the culture of day-to-day life in China, although anticipated the language barrier could be a challenge.

He will play for the University of Wollongong team, who qualified last year. However, the side will play bigger nations, such as China, Spain and Germany, which will make bringing home the trophy a difficult feat.

"To be part of the inaugural side not just for UOW or Australia, but Oceania, is pretty special," he said.

"We've got a good bunch of boys on the team and a coach who expects the best of us."
