Their weightiest challenge was rescuing 500kg cow Betsy after a 2.5-metre fall down a cliff. SES and Gerringong RFS volunteers worked together to winch Betsy to safety. Earlier, SES volunteers rescued two people trapped in an elevator at Kiama Railway Station. They stabilised the elevator and doors, isolated power to the station and cut door cables before using the jaws of life to force open the doors and free the occupants. Finally, a kookaburra was spotted tangled in fishing line in Gerroa. SES crews worked with RFS and WIRES to free the bird, before turning in for a well-deserved sleep.
