Kiama SES were called to Gerringong on Wednesday, August 21, after reports of an anxious mother duck next to a drain. Her ducklings had fallen into the drain and were unable to get out.
NSW SES said volunteers searched nearby stormwater pits but couldn't find the ducklings.
The Gerringong Rural Fire Brigade were called to help. Volunteers employed creative thinking and used water to encourage the ducks to move to a higher section of the drain, where they could be easily rescued.
Once the three ducklings were sighted, they were carefully removed from the stormwater drain and reunited with the mother duck, NSW SES said.
