An important contributor to the financial success of the Kiama Lions Trivia Night held earlier this year was the amount raised from auctions, raffles etc where the prizes were largely donated by the local business community. Such donations are greatly appreciated. A winner of a variety of vouchers that night has observed that using them often meant favourable exposure to the donor business for the first time, and also that at a café, for example, extra money was often spent beyond the value of the voucher.
This is a classic win/win situation whereby the generosity of the business in donating the voucher can well lead to generating both goodwill and more customers. While we appreciate the inability of some businesses to respond to such requests, given that many groups seek such support through the year, nevertheless there can be a potential two-way benefit to be considered. When the vouchers were used many donors were thrilled to learn of the success of the evening and their part in this.
KIAMA ROTARY CLUB
The Rotary Clubs of Gerringong and Kiama often work together on projects spanning the Municipality of Kiama; such is the case at the moment where our combined efforts will see us conducting the Kiama Auto Expo on November 24, 2019. One of the recipients of money raised from the Auto Expo will be the Kiama Parkinson's Support Group; a group of people living with Parkinson's and their carers. This team of dedicated volunteers meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at Kiama Leagues Club (10am to 11:30am) with discussions tailored to those attending.
The meeting is an ideal way for those living with Parkinson's to share their experiences and gain support from the understanding of others who experience the same challenges. One of the key challenges with Parkinson's is the need to constantly monitor medication for its effectiveness. People living with Parkinson's also benefit from regular exercise, structured by professionals who ensure a Parkinson's tailored program. The Kiama Parkinson's Support Group have been instrumental in making such services available. For more information contact Lesley Errington M: 0416 219 364.
Such is the demand for Health Based initiatives within the Municipality that the combined Rotary Clubs of Gerringong and Kiama have plans in place to conduct a monster raffle (new car first prize) leading up to the Kiama Auto Expo; so keep your eyes open as tickets will be limited.
