For any Rotary Club, the Changeover Dinner marks an important point in the Rotary year. The dinner is a celebration of one Rotary year ending and a simultaneous celebration of another Rotary year beginning. A Rotary Club has a business structure that reflects Rotary's roots; a group of business leaders who decided to use their business knowledge and influence to impact on problems within their local community.
Our club, the Rotary Club of Kiama, has a President and a Board, both of which change at the Changeover Dinner; Tonia Barnes is our outgoing President and Barry Wilson our incoming. Barry has known he will lead the club as its new President since his election last year, which has allowed him and his new board to plan the year ahead. At a member level, the club breaks into committees each with a specific focus; for example, the upcoming "Festival of Choirs" and the "Kiama Auto Expo" committees are already implementing strategies to make these events a success.
It should not surprise you to hear with a new team filling the key positions or guiding roles within the Club; there will be new initiatives undertaken. Many of these projects will ask for your support at a financial and personal involvement level. From previous experience, we are confident, when asked, you will do all you can to support Rotary's 2019-2020 community initiatives.
KIAMA LIONS CLUB
Thanks to the support of the Kiama community over the past year it was announced at the recent 49th Changeover Dinner that almost $82,000 had been donated by the Club over the course of the 2018-19 year. This reflected the efforts of the Club ably led by President John Larkins. Local Kiama groups and projects were recipients of about three-quarters of the total, with the support of broader Lions Foundations and Programs representing most of the remainder.
Incoming President Jim McNeilly heads up a board determined to serve our community and your ongoing support of Lions projects and fund-raising efforts will ensure our success in our 50th year. One of our members, Peter Scifleet, has served with distinction as the N2 District Governor over the past year and has contributed greatly to the cause of Lionism in this role both locally and more broadly. As the largest club in the District, Kiama Lions' future success depends upon both the efforts of members and the support we receive from the community.
