The three-day skateboarding festival will showcase all aspects of the sport, with coaching programs, demonstrations, competitions, merchandise and product stalls.
Kiama will host the event in July thanks to a deal between Destination Kiama and the Australian Skateboarding Community Initiative.
Destination Kiama chair Cr Matt Brown said Skatefest 2019 was an important step in development of the local tourism sector.
"This is a fantastic result for our municipality for a number of reasons, the first is Skatefest Kiama will attract the 12 - 24 age group, a demographic with a lot of potential for our region," Cr Brown said.
"Kiama does well with young families, grey nomads and the like, but we need to broaden our appeal to a greater range of visitors.
"Secondly, we once again have secured a multi-day sporting event for our area right in the middle of winter, in line with our strategy of attracting more visitors when we need them most."
Skatefest Kiama will feature:
- Street contests with the top skater from each division qualifying for state competition
- Coaching programs and demonstrations which include the top NSW skateboarders and programs aimed at women skateboarders
- Vendor stalls to demonstrate and sell the latest equipment and merchandise
Mayor Mark Honey congratulated Destination Kiama and the Australian Skateboarding Community Initiative who worked together to bring the event to the region.
"Beyond the economic benefits, what we have been able to do is provide the younger members of our community with a first-class sporting and cultural fixture aimed directly at them," mayor Honey said.
"This event also is a significant signal to them that council is serious about providing them events for their enjoyment, in their own backyard.
"If we want the future generation to continue the strong community networks we have developed here, we need to show them that we are serious about their role in our community, and their importance to us."
Sentral Youth Services will host free skate clinics facilitated by Olliesonny Skateboarding to help young people prepare for Skatefest Kiama.
Clinics are for ages eight and up and inclusive of all level of ability.
