Residents of Uniting Gerringong Boronia Lodge will benefit from a redeveloped aged care home specialising in the support of people living with dementia, following development approval from the Kiama Municipal Council.
Construction on the new 20 bed residence on Belinda Street is expected to commence in mid-2019 and is will be be completed in 2020.
The new Uniting Boronia building will use the household model of care which is designed to ensure residents' choices and control over their daily routines, leisure and lifestyle activities are maximised.
It will accompany a person-centred and diversionary therapeutic approach to care.
Uniting Boronia's household model will also be tailored to the needs of people with advanced dementia.
Assisted by an ongoing process of formal consultation with Gerringong residents, their families, and carers, employees, unions, and others in the community, the household model developed for Boronia focuses on creating contemporary home-like environments.
The household of 20 residents will feature dedicated care hours, delivered by a stable and consistent local teams.
Head of property development at Uniting Adrian Ciano is pleased with the new development.

The Uniting John and Helen Robinson aged care home onsite has been refurbished for residents of the existing Uniting Boronia home to live in while construction work is undertaken.
The residents have been moved there and are in the process of settling in.
