The barbecue at the market with Kiama High School Band worked quite well and we will be helping to defray the costs of the trip for the local parents. Negotiations with Council have progressed and it is hoped that we will have our lease shortly and be able to accommodate carers needing a respite break.
Our next Bunnings barbecue will be on the 31st and we are enjoying meeting lots of new folks there and telling them what our club does locally. We hope to see many Kiama folks there to stop by, say hello and enjoy one of our special butchers sausages. We will also be running our Driver Reviver Caravan at Dunmore over the Queen's birthday holiday weekend.
Another Lions District has just been presented with a cheque for $175,000 by the Freemasons for Drought relief. Our next meeting will be at the Leagues Club on Thursday 23rd at 7pm. Our Guest speaker will be the High School student we funded for the Outward Bound Navigator Course, who will tell us of his adventures and how the course has been of benefit to him.
KIAMA ROTARY CLUB
Long before Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn; Rotary, the world's oldest service club, has been connecting the world. Indeed one of the member benefits most valued by Rotarians is the ability to present themselves to any meeting of a Rotary Club, anywhere in the world and gain an immediate welcome and assistance if needed. With 33,000 Rotary Clubs to choose from, this makes for an incredible web of connectivity and communication. Rotarians share their solutions to common problems experienced within their communities; they often connect across significant distances to access Rotarian specialists. In early June, 22,000 Rotarians will attend the 2019 Rotary Convention in Hamburg, Germany; this networking opportunity will see connections created that can last a lifetime.
Even at a local Rotary Club level, the question of connecting with their community is not far from a Rotarian's mind; For example, Rotary in its own right conducts many projects that have a local benefit and the starting point will often be Rotary reaching out to connect by asking the question "What can we do to help?" For example; The Australian Red Cross-Kiama Fun Run has a shortage of marshals on the day and Kiama Rotary will be stepping up to fill those gaps. So as Rotary enters 2019-2020 with the theme "Rotary Connects the World", why don't you form a Rotary connection by contacting John Clarke (0419 546 094) and asking about what's involved in belonging to one of the worlds largest network of volunteers?
