Penelope will be presenting Musical Personalities, an illustrated piano recital of works by Bach, Beethoven, Grainger, Chopin and more.
Her performance will explore how, behind the great and beautiful works of the piano repertoire, lie real lives and real experience: bizarre, tragic, comic or joyful.
The people who gave musical expression to these emotions are a constant source of fascination.
Penelope Thwaites made her debut at London’s Wigmore Hall in 1974 and her reflections have evolved throughout a long international career.
Although born in Chester, in the UK and a resident in London for most of her life, Penelope grew up in Australia, winning first place on graduation in music from Melbourne University.
She has wide experience not only as a pianist but as composer, writer and editor, broadcaster and music festival curator.
She is recognised internationally as a leading exponent of Percy Grainger’s music with more than 260 tracks recorded, and as editor of 'The New Percy Grainger Companion'.
Tickets for the concert are $25 at the door for visitors.
Entry is free for members, children and students.
Doors open at 1.30pm. Afternoon tea is provided.
Gerringong Music Club is looking forward to a very interesting and attractive program for 2019.
