Rohan McKnight, Digital Health Manager at Coordinare was the guest speaker at last week’s Kiama Rotary Club meeting. He provided insights in to the new digital health records system.
Rohan is responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of strategies that improve the uptake and use of Digital Health initiatives by primary health providers, including secure messaging, telehealth, My Health Record and web-based care planning systems. Rohan spends a significant amount of his time training clinicians in the use of the My Health Record system.
This was a return visit by Rohan who first presented to our club in October. There were still many questions and a high level of interest in the information he shared regarding the application and adoption of the My Health Record system. This week he was able to take more time to demonstrate the system and how to take control of our own digital records. He showed us how to access the system via the My Gov site and explained that a combination of Medicare number and date of birth are used to create an individual record number. He walked the members through how to manage our records, delete information we choose not to share, restrict access to specific records or all records, obtain access for carers or parents and manage updates to information we manage.
Rohan advised us that the opt out date has been extended to 31st of January. However, the new legislation allows you to delete your record at any time in the future so the decision is less critical then it would have been as you can effectively opt out at any time.
Visitors, guests and potential members are always welcome to join our meetings at the Kiama Leagues Club in Kiama on Monday evenings at 6.30pm for 7pm start. Contact John Kenny on 0434 989 253 to ensure a meal is available for you.
KIAMA LIONS CLUB
We have been all geared up for the Kiama Show and by the time you read this it will be all over. So our next event will be the Bunnings BBQ on Feb 1. Our last BBQ there was very successful, so we hope for a repeat. At the last board meeting we agreed on a donation to the Kiama kids who qualified for the World Lego championships towards their travel costs.
Last week at our Dinner meeting our next big project was proposed. It would require the agreement of most of the clubs of our District. It will be a big undertaking but would help so many people who would not otherwise be covered by the NDIS. At our next Dinner meeting (Feb 14) we expect to induct some new members and our guest speakers will be the operators of the Police Dog Squad. Following that we will be seeking nominations for next year’s board.
February 28th will be our Happy Hour at the Kiama Surf Club which is always a popular occasion and an opportunity for new members and their partners to socialise in a relaxed environment.
