The newly refurbished walking track and viewing platforms will make it easier for South Coast locals and visitors to the Budderoo National Park to explore the tranquil rainforest canopy and enjoy stunning waterfall views of Minnamurra Falls.

“I’m delighted to announce the reopening of the Minnamurra Upper Falls viewing platforms and walking track, the first milestone of the Minnamurra Rainforest reinvigoration project, using the NSW Government’s investment of $4.7 million investment over three years,” Kiama Mp Gareth Ward said. 

“The South Coast region, famous for beautiful national parks, now has another world-class walking track to offer park visitor.” 

National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) area manager Graham Bush thanked park visitors for their patience whilst the work was being completed.

“The extensive construction works to reopen the walking track and viewing platforms were extremely difficult due to the remote location. We want to thank visitors for their patience whilst the track and viewing platforms were closed,” he said. 

“The track work involved flying in construction supplies and equipment using the NPWS helicopter and due to the height of the rainforest canopy, this was a particularly difficult task.”

Mr Bush said about 100,000 people visit Minnamurra Rainforest Visitors Centre each year.

“There are two main walking tracks at the Minnamurra Rainforest Centre, the Rainforest Loop Walk, the park’s most popular walk, and the Upper Falls Walk which has just reopened,” he said. 

“We still have work to do on replacing the Rainforest Loop Walk and once this work has finished, this walking track will form one long track from the visitor centre, linking up to the Upper Falls viewing platform.

“The next phase in the Minnamurra Rainforest Centre reinvigoration project is revitalisation of the visitor centre. This work is anticipated to start in April 2019.”
