First of all Happy New Year to all our readers friends and loved ones. Lions have been quite busy over the holiday period with Driver Reviver. It is always interesting when doing a shift at Dunmore to talk to travellers about their destination and plans. Many are "repeat customers" which is good for us because we know they are resting on the journey, which is what the RMS like us to encourage.
One significant event was that our member Chris English, who suffered a tragic accident about a year ago and is confined to a wheelchair, was able to come from Port Kembla Hospital, and be present with his family doing a shift at Dunmore, fulfilling a tradition that has lasted for 11 years.
Our next Dinner Meeting will be at the Rugby Club on Thursday 10th. It is a bring a friend night but numbers have to be given to Lion David Wright in advance for catering purposes. We will also be at Bunnings on January 12th. Lions have donated money to the victims of the tsunami in Indonesia.
KIAMA ROTARY CLUB
The Rotary Club of Kiama is once again supporting local youth to engage in development opportunities. We are currently looking for nominations of young people to participate in RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment). This program is for young people aged from 14 to 16 years and caters for teenagers who have exhibited the qualities of decency, courage, persistence, sincerity, and application in everyday life, which deserve further development.
RYPEN uses the common bonds of learning, co-operation, and friendship to design activities which facilitate trust and self-esteem. RYPEN seeks to broaden each participant’s horizons culturally, socially, and academically, providing the inner foundations for a strong future.
The camp will run on the weekend of April 5-7 at Teen Ranch, Cobbity. Transport can be provided by Rotarians who are authorised for working with children.
Application forms need to be downloaded from the District website: https://rotarydistrict9675.org/page/rypen
If you are aware of a young person who has the potential to benefit from this experience please contact Heather Morton via email morton.heather@calderwoodcs.nsw.edu.au or Mal Bracken mbracken37@gmail.com mobile: 0414 905 616.
