President of the Gerringong Association Andrew Wales, said it exceeded their expectations.
“Judging by the number of people on the street there were a significant number of people who had come in for the soiree, so we were very happy,” he said.
“The feedback from the public was that it was a great idea, they were very happy to support it and have something they can do in early December in Gerringong.
“The business owners were very excited about the number of people in town and enthusiastic about how many people had turned out to support them – they see it as a reflection of where the town is going.”
The association has launched an ‘Escape to Gerringong’ campaign, which they hope will stimulate growth in the community.
“It will be the face of what we do for at least the next five years, it’s designed to build Gerringong as a destination for people further afield, and for locals,” Mr Wales said.
“We have a lot of people in town, many of whom leave to do their shopping, we want them to reconnect with the town centre.
“The soiree was the first step in a very long campaign we are rolling out to achieve both those things.”
