Traffic will begin to pass through a new, 400m stretch of the Princes Highway near Silos Estate, Jaspers Brush.
”I’m so proud of the work contractors are doing and the RMS is doing to contribute to this great project,” Kiama MP Gareth Ward said.
“When I stood for parliament, I stood to fix the Princes Highway, and as a local member I am so proud of the major investments we’re seeing.”
The road between Turners Lane and Wileys Creek will be the first major traffic switch on the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade, weather permitting.
Contractors hope to lay an asphalt surface along the side track through the week.
The traffic switch will run for about 12 months, to allow for workers to start building bridges over Wileys Creek and over a Wileys Creek overflow on the existing highway.
Weather permitting it will take about a year to build the western half of the bridge, and then a year to build the eastern half of the bridge.
Motorists will be able to travel up to 80km per hour along the side track.
From time to time, speed limits will be reduced to 60 or 40km per hour, depending on proximity of works to the stretch of road.
Over the festive season from December 21 and January 5, there will be a break in construction.
The 80km per hour speed limit through the worksite will remain in place for the safety of motorists.
Works on the major project are running on time and due to be complete by mid 2020.
