Hosted by the Rotary Club of Gerringong, the annual event will be held on Saturday, December 15.
“In recent years Gerringong Rotary has endeavoured to broaden the entertainment experience for visitors to our area, by creating a festival atmosphere around the traditional street parade held in Gerringong’s main street,” Rotarian and event coordinator Colin Watt said.
The Gerringong Village Market starts at 8.30am with a wide range of stalls displaying and selling locally produced art, crafts and food.
Buskers and local entertainers will be performing during the day in front of the Town Hall and in the adjacent Old School Park. At 10.30am Natural Necessity have organised a Fashion Parade in Fern Street to display the latest in beach fashion.
The parade commences at 11am, with the Bendigo Community Bank featuring for the first time with their imminent opening in Gerringong early in 2019.
“The parade will be made up of more than 40 local community and sporting groups, colourful floats, pipe bands and classic cars,” Mr Watt said.
“Our local member Gareth Ward and Kiama’s Mayor Mark Honey will be riding on the back of trikes in the parade.
“Also Santa will feature riding in the back of one of the classic cars, and the crowd will be entertained by the Town Crier, cartoon characters and elves.”
Local businesses are adding to the spectacle of the festival by decorating their shopfronts with festive displays.
Mr Watt suggested the best vantage points to watch the parade would be along Fern Street between Blackwood and Belinda Streets.
The Special Village Markets will be extended through to 3pm to allow the many visitors to the area to complete their Christmas Shopping.
Prizes can be won at a community raffle in the Old School Park, with proceeds used to assist those less fortunate at this special time of the year.
“Thanks to the many local community organisations, sporting teams, shop owners and local businesses that all come together to make this day a huge success,” Mr Watt said.
“The Gerringong Christmas Festival and Street Parade would not be possible without the generous support of the Bendigo Community Bank, First National Coast and Country Real Estate, Natural Necessity Gerringong, Khan’s SUPA IGA, Gerringong Bowling and Recreation Club, The Sebel Kiama Harbourside and Bluewater Dental Gerringong.”
