Jon is inviting all interested residents and visitors, as well as his fellow resident artists to Fern Street Gallery in the heart of Gerringong, to join him at the official launch of Landscapes@85 on Friday, November 30 between 5-7pm.
The event will provide an opportunity to hear from Jon about his work in a casual and welcoming Meet the Artist event, with drinks and nibbles provided.
“As a proud Gerringong local, I am thrilled to launch my first solo exhibition at the new Fern Street Gallery over the next two weeks,” Jon said.
“This exhibition, Landscape@85, offers an original twist on traditional landscape photography that reflects my affinity for our natural world.”
The exhibition reflects the challenges Jon has set himself, both technically and creatively, to capture inspiring and beautiful places in a unique and interesting way.
While most landscape photographers tend to shoot with a wide angle lens - generally between 16-35 millimetre - in this exhibition Jon has ventured out of his comfort zone, using a fixed 85 millimetre length lens.
“Shooting in this way brings a special, intimate quality to my work and has allowed me to bring my audience with me to experience a focal point within the landscape,” Jon explained.
While Jon’s passion for capturing natural landscapes was first kindled as a photographer, exploring areas from Booderee on the South Coast to Kakadu National Park, this exhibition has taken him as far afield as the northern reaches of Scandinavia.
“This exhibition has inspired me to bring together the best of these images – each image tells an interesting and beautiful story about a moment in a place in the world that is special in its own way,” Jon explained.
“While we are rightly proud of our local places, we Australians are well known for being adventurous travellers who are keen to get off the beaten track.”
A key part of the resident-run professional gallery, Meet the Artist events are already becoming a regular part of the social calendar for Gerringong and art lovers across the region.
“I am looking forward to sharing more of my work at the gallery, which has impressed locals and visitors with the calibre of resident and visiting artists as well as the professional exhibition spaces,” Jon said.
“We are grateful for our enthusiastic reception from the local community, who are keen to support us as a drawcard destination for art lovers from across Australia.”
