More than 90 children descended on Chittick Oval yesterday to take part in a skills session organised by the Kiama Junior Knights, in conjunction with the PlayNRL South Coast Development Officers.

Carl Middleton, president of the Junior Knights, said that while it may not be rugby league season, the clinic was certainly a big hit for those who attended.
“The clinic was for boys and girls of all skill levels – it was all about having fun, making new friends and keeping fit,” Middleton said.
“While there were lots of current Knights Juniors involved, it was also good to see some new faces down here, with many kids trying rugby league or league tag for the first time.”
The children took part in a variety of games and training exercises, with St George Illawarra Dragons and Jillaroos player Kezie Apps plus Kiama Senior Knights Ladies League Tag Captain Kristi Pan on-hand to run through training drills with the children.
“Some of our coaches were also there to meet with players and parents, ahead of the 2019 season,” he added.
The session finished at 5pm just before kick-off in the final games of the summer League Touch competition with the Reds defeating the Greens 7-2, and Blue beating the Browns 8-4.
“This competition has been an exciting move for our Club, with more than 30 boys taking part each week,” Middleton said.
“They really embraced this new format of the game. It felt much more like rugby league than traditional touch football, with markers at the play the ball and kicks in general play – it was a lot of fun!”
Given its success, the club may look to extend it in future years.
