Together, they have come up with a new vision for the competition.
“We really want to the showgirl competition to be more relatable and accessible for the young women in the local area this year,” Ms Arthur said.
“For a long time, the competition has been misrepresented as a beauty pageant or something just for girls with a background in farming, but that couldn’t be more wrong.
“We hope to shake things up a bit, particularly in the showgirl competition, and make young people see how much they can give in the community, and more importantly how much the community can give you.”
They are on the hunt for young women who are interested in making their community a better place and becoming a leader in the community.
“Our vision is to offer the young women in this community a platform for leadership, experiences they would not otherwise have access to and see the difference they can make within the place they live and love,” Ms Hawken said.
Ms Arthur said although it sounded like a cliche, the competition had given her renewed confidence.
“It threw me out of my comfort zone, but offered me so much more than I can ever give back,” she said.
“As a community ambassador this year, I have been volunteering within the community with Rotary, I have been an MC for the Artisan Food Festival, along with so many more things.
“As a Showgirl you will learn and grow and will be shown the difference you can make within the community.”
A number of sponsors are back on board for the 2019 showgirl competition.
“A massive thank you always goes to our major sponsor Making Faces Makeup Studio, who commit so much time to this competition every year,” Ms Arthur said.
“The wonderful Meryll Faulkner does the hair and makeup for all our showgirls for the Show ball and the Show day, which is hugely appreciated.”
The Kiama Show Ball will be held at Kiama Leisure Centre on Saturday, November 17. Tickets are $40 and available for purchase at kiamashowevents.com/showball
