Day is keen to better his round one result, when he managed an 11th place, well behind his usual podium finishes.
“Things didn’t go my way at Queenscliff and honestly I was pretty shattered, so I’m looking to get back to form at Coolum this weekend,” he said.
“Coolum is known for its big waves and tricky conditions and I’ve raced there since I was young so hopefully that experience pays off.”
An extremely disappointed Shannon Eckstein will have to sit out this weekend due to a calf injury he sustained in round one.
At peak fitness heading into the season and vying for his 10thIronMan title, Eckstein will rest his leg in the hope of returning for round three.
Meanwhile, 2017 Nutri-Grain IronMan Champion Matt Bevilacqua, isn’t fazed by his 14th placing in round one and is heading into this race with a positive attitude.
“I think Queenscliff is a cursed beach for me,” he said.
“I placed 16th there last year and went on to win the Nutri-Grain Series so while I would have liked to have done better of course, I know I can recover and get back up there.”
Round one winner, James Lacy will be one to watch as he sets out to prove his win was not a one off, as will Matt Poole who is truly back in form and hungry for the number one spot.
