The Cavaliers’ under 11s White and Silver tested a new synthetic cricket pitch in the first official game on the new deck at Chapman Point Reserve on Saturday, November 3.
Laid about 10 days before the match, the new synthetic wicket was purchased with a grassroots grant from the Commonwealth Bank and Kiama Council, Cavaliers Cricket Club president John Dawson said.
The picturesque ground will be used by the four under 11s teams the club has registered for the 2018/2019 season.
Mr Dawson said the synthetic wicket could be an option for the club’s two under 13s teams.
The ground offers a “beautiful setting” for families, who can find seating in the shade, there is off street parking, a view of Kendalls Beach, and a game may have to be stopped if whales are seen breaching off Kalelua Head and Kendalls Point.
Mr Dawson said the club was “very blessed” to receive the funds to upgrade the pitch.
The funds were also used to upgrade the Gainsborough West pitch.
Mayor Mark Honey said he was pleased to see the Cavaliers’ provide another “good quality” facility for their junior players.
