My great great great grandparents Peter and Catherine Cheffins arrived in Kiama from England as a family with Children in 1887.
Peter was the engineer and road superintendent for Kiama Council and was highly involved in the agricultural show and in the building of the swimming pool.
When the family took a holiday to England a few years later, the Kiama Independent reported the sumptuous welcome home, including a dinner at the Brighton Hotel where the mayor awarded him a gold medallion for his service.
He was involved with tenders for Macquarie Pass. He was a contemporary of John Honey, he lived in Bong Bong Street and had an office in Collins Street until at least 1901.
His son David went to Kiama Public School and his elder son Charles was married in the Anglican Church in 1900.
I am unable to find one photograph. Would anyone have any photographs or information?
