More than 100 players will travel from as far as Brisbane and Melbourne for the round robin tournament.
The tournament committee led by club president Dave Lehman and former president and current committee member Bob Morgan have been working since September last year to plan a professional event which will attract players who qualify for 35 to 75 year-old events.
Players at the tournament and all local tennis enthusiasts are welcome to rub shoulders with the tournament’s special guest, Australian tennis legend Mark Edmondson, at the Legends Dinner at the Kiama Leagues Club on Saturday, October 13.
Edmondson, 64, was the last Australian to win the men’s singles Australian Open title in Melbourne in 1976.
Ranked 212 in the world, he overcame all odds to defeat fellow Australian John Newcombe in the final.
Among his many accolades, Edmondson won a grand slam in his career.
Kiama Tennis Club members hope to see the tournament cement its place on the NSW country tennis circuit.
To host such a large-scale event the committee gained support through sponsorship – ANZ Banking stepped in as the major sponsor.
Tickets to the Legends Dinner can be obtained from board members and at the Stead Reserve Tennis Club House.
