In the women’s side of the draw, Gerroa’s Sally Fitzgibbons will be the lone South Coast soldier in the field, after two-time reigning world champion Tyler Wright is still out of action, due to an illness – with France’s Pauline Ado taking her spot.
In the opening round, Fitzgibbons, fresh of claiming two medals for Team Australia at the UR ISA World Surfing Games, will take on Johanne Defay (France) and Keely Andrew (Australia) in heat six.
While in the men’s draw, Culburra Beach’s Owen Wright will look to build on his recent strong form, when he takes on Brazil’s Yago Dora and Hawaii’s Keanu Asing in heat two of the first round.
The final South Coast product that will be in action in France will be Culburra Beach’s Mikey Wright.
Despite not securing a spot in the main draw, he will contest the Red Bull Airborne, an aerial speciality event featuring 18 of the most innovative surfers, including Brazil’s Filipe Toledo, Hawaii’s Albee Layer and Australia’s Chippa Wilson, in the air, both on and off the Championship Tour.
