Mayor Mark Honey has encouraged people to nominate someone they know.
“This is a close-knit community, a place people care about, a place where people care for each other, and a place where people contribute,” Cr Honey said.
“The local Australia Day Awards allow us to recognise those people that play a part, large or small, in our community.”
The Australia Day Awards are for:
- Australia Day Citizen Award
- Australia Day Young Citizen Award
- Australia Day Senior Citizen of the Year
- Community Group of the Year
Nomination forms are available online at kiama.nsw.gov.au/australiaday
Nominations must be submitted by 4pm on Friday, October 26.
The Awards will be presented at council’s Australia Day celebrations, which are being held in Gerringong on Saturday, January 26, 2019.
The celebrations will include the traditional citizenship ceremony, as well as a range of music, food and activities.
“Council recently decided to have its main Australia Day celebrations in a different town each year,” Cr Honey said.
“Last year’s event at Jamberoo was a great success, and we’re already preparing for what is sure to be a great day in Gerringong.”
