The St George Illawarra enforcer was named in the The Players' 13 Dream Team, in the backrow position.
Joining the Lions junior in the team were Kalyn Ponga, Valentine Holmes, Latrell Mitchell, Esan Marsters, Jamayne Isaako, Cameron Munster, Johnathan Thurston, Andrew Fifita, Damien Cook, Nelson Asofa-Solomona, Viliame Kikau and 13 Jake Trbojevic.
It was a big night for Newcastle’s Kalyn Ponga, with the fullback becoming the youngest ever recipient of The Players’ Champion (NRL Players' Player).
Other major award winners on the night were; Mounties’ Simaima Taufa (elite women's player of the year), Dragons’ Jason Nightingale (Dennis Tutty Award and Pasifika academic excellence), Roosters’ Victor Radley (rookie of the year), Tonga’s Jason Taumalolo (representative player of the year), Cowboys’ Johnathan Thurston (Indigenous academic excellence), Titans’ Dale Copley (men's academic player of the year) and Broncos’ Kody House (women's academic player of the year).
