He's the global superstar sprinter who has set A-League interest alight as a potential professional football convert.
And now he’s on his way to Wollongong.
The Mercury can confirm Bolt will take the field for a pre-season game between NSW National Premier League club Wollongong Wolves and the Central Coast Mariners at WIN Stadium on Saturday, October 6.
It comes as the Wolves, on a 10-club shortlist, are pushing for A-League expansion, with the bidding process to be finalised by Friday.
“This is a massive opportunity for the people of the South Coast to watch their local team take on an A-league club and one of the world’s greatest ever athletes,” Wolves chairman Tory Lavelle said.
“It is also a chance for our community to show their support for top level football and demonstrate to the game’s administrators that our region can and will support an A-League club.”
The Wolves are in talks with Destination Wollongong and the WIN Sports and Entertainment Centres in an attempt to bring the match to Wollongong.
However, such an event incurs stadium costs and the club is looking for corporate partners to support the match.
The Jamaican has won eight Olympic gold medals, most recently in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Bolt joined the Mariners earlier this month after previous training periods with Borussia Dortmund (Germany), Mamelodi Sundowns FC (South Africa) and Strømsgodset (Norway).
