Organisers have adopted a ‘festival’ theme this year, with rides, activities for the kids, market stalls, live music and delicious food from local vendors.
Participants in the 2017 relay raised an outstanding $50,000, with Team Blooms raising the most money, bringing in $7314.
Team members Elaine Norris, Margaret Russell, Coral Barrott, Sue Wiecek and Chris Wiecek gathered at Black Beach on Thursday.
Coral Barrott has been involved with the Kiama Relay For Life since it started in 2010.
“It was very encouraging to be able to do that and help with cancer research,” she said.
“I’m happy to help and put in a bit of effort.
“We mostly raise money though street stalls, and raffles, which are always great.”
The 2017 event was held for the first time at beautiful Black Beach Reserve.
“It’s so much more open and people know we’re here, last year we had whales and dolphins going past as we were walking, it was just perfect,” Mrs Barrott said.
“We’re looking forward to heaps more people coming this year and participating in it.”
On the day there will be team and individual challenges, including a ‘one hour challenge’ for the person and team who complete the most laps in an hour.
There will also be a ‘superhero dress up hour’, with the best dressed team and individual receiving a prize.
The Kiama Relay For Life will be held on Saturday, November 3 at Black Beach Reserve.
