Shortly before 9am, fire crews responded to reports power lines were possibly down and a fast-running grass fire was threatening properties in Jerrara.
By 11am the fire, which came within 15-20m of homes, due to 100km/hour winds, was out.
Crews spent the afternoon spraying the ground to eliminate any further threat of fire.
EARLIER
AT 8.43am on Wednesday: Emergency services have been called to a grass fire at Mount Brandon Road, Jerrara.
NSW Fire and Rescue and Rural Fire Service firefighters have been dispatched to protect nearby properties, and contain the blaze.
At around 8.40am the grass fire was reportedly 200m long, burning on the southern side of the road near 356 Mount Brandon Road.
A large area of paddock is alight, and visibility is poor due to smoke.
At 8.50am firefighters made the call to evacuate residents.
Four crews are on their way from Dunmore, Albion Park and Illawarra.
