The store opened, and customers came into the store to do their shopping and check on staff after the terrifying incident, where a 14 year-old staff member was threatened.
The manager of Kiama Downs IGA did not wish to comment on the robbery but was able to confirm that staff members were holding up well.
On Sunday night, Kiama residents were alarmed by the number of police vehicles in the area, and quickly learned what had happened via social media.
On the NSW Police Force page, community members flagged concerns about the welfare of the staff member who was threatened in the robbery.
“No one injured? The trauma that kid experienced is injury enough,” Steve Hughes said via Facebook.
“She needs an immediate counselling session even if she doesn’t think she needs it. If the employer is reading this please offer it ASAP.”
