This year is the first time the launch event will be hosted by primary school students.
The August 6 event also features a dancing robot, student performances and a film highlighting how schools are working with their communities to solve real-world problems.
And it is the first time Education Week has kicked off with a simultaneous launch at Parramatta and Kiama public schools, which will be livestreamed on YouTube so all government schools and their communities can join in.
KIama PS relieving principal Kieren Corbyn said being involved in the Education Week launch was great for the school community.
“They have basically bumped in an entire TV studio in our hall just for the launch event,” he said.
“There is a couple of big screens which will broadcast what's happening at Parramatta when we are not live and then conversely it will flip over and we will have a live performance or live speaker and they will be watching us via their video link that will be livestreamed via YouTube.
“Two of our captains [Chloe and Lexi] will also be the compares for the event, which is really cool.
“Our school band and our choir will also perform and entertain our dignitaries. We can’t wait.”
Education Week’s (August 6-10) theme, Today’s schools – creating tomorrow’s world, highlights how NSW public schools are equipping young people with the skills and capabilities they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
Department of Education secretary Mark Scott said ensuring today’s students had the skills they would need to “not just survive, but thrive” in the future underpinned the department’s evidence-based approach to learning.
