The two vehicles, currently based in the Far South Coast and Orana Mid-Western Police Districts, have been themed with traditional Aboriginal artwork in consultation with the community and Aboriginal Programs branch of the NSW Police Force.
Rachel Treacy, an Aboriginal artist based in Western Australia, created the artwork.
Corporate Sponsor for Aboriginal Programs, Assistant Commissioner Peter Barrie said the intent of these vehicles is to not only provide effective policing services to the people of NSW, but also mark the respect police have for indigenous culture.
The Commander of the state’s Traffic & Highway Patrol Command, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said seeing these operational vehicles patrolling rural roads, “will highlight the partnership we have with indigenous communities and also reduce serious injury and fatal crashes across the state”.
Police now intend to extend the project to the Northern Region and Sydney Metropolitan region, with two further vehicles scheduled to receive indigenous livery in the future.
