The Bureau of meterology has issued a sever weather warning for damaging winds for the Illawarra, South Coast, Snowy Mountains and parts of Southern Tablelands and South West Slopes Forecast Districts.
Damaging winds averaging 70 to 80 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 110 km/h are expected over the Alpine Peaks above 1600 metres from about midday on Sunday, while winds 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts in excess of 100 km/h are expected elsewhere over the southern ranges in the warning area from Sunday afternoon.
Winds are expected to gradually ease on Monday morning.
Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Batemans Bay, Eden, Braidwood, Bega, Moruya Heads, Goulburn, Cooma, Bombala, Thredbo, Perisher, Cabramurra and Tumbarumba.
The National Parks Service of NSW recommends that people consider postponing back country travel until conditions improve.
South Coast sheep graziers have also been warned of the cold temperatures, showers and strong westerly winds expected during Sunday.
The bureau has warned that these conditions can cause the loss of sheep.
