Kiama Mayor Mark Honey said Council had contracted Wollongong-based firm Cardno to develop a detailed design for the for the $4.5 million project.
“Cardno, in conjunction with Council, is hosting community information sessions next month to gather ideas for the design of the boardwalk,” Cr Honey said.
“In particular, we want to hear ideas about the material, lighting, furnishing types, informative signage, and construction types for the project.”
The information sessions are being held at Kiama Golf Club:
- Wednesday, August 1 from 6pm-8pm.
- Wednesday, August 15 from 2pm-4pm.
Cardno has developed a preferred boardwalk route, following consultations with NSW and Australian government agencies.
The preferred route takes into account ecological and heritage issues, as well as opportunities to provide water access, viewing platforms and social spaces.
Cardno has produced a report on its work determining the preferred route, which is available from council’s website at www.kiama.nsw.gov.au
“I strongly encourage everyone attending the information sessions to put forward their ideas and ask any questions they have about the route of the boardwalk,” Cr Honey said.
Feedback from the information sessions will be collated by Cardno as part of its community consultation process.
People can also provide their feedback via email to council@kiama.nsw.gov.au.
