The plans were projected into the public arena last night via the Kiama Community Facebook page.
Cr Matt Brown spruiked the idea, printed in the Kiama Tourism Opportunities report, released in council’s agenda on Tuesday.
“The whole community has come along for the ride on this document, now we’re looking forward to implement the recommendations,” Cr Brown told Win News.
Blowhole Point is on Crown Land, owned by the state government, managed by council.
Mr Ward said he would assert his authority to protect the land from development.
“The government will not be proceeding with any redevelopment of the cabins,” Mr Wards said.
“People are sick and tired of over-development in Kiama.
“The claim that this document has the support of community is wrong.
“The document has merit, but there will be no development at Blowhole Point while I am the local MP at Kiama.”
Cr Brown refuses to concede the community is against the idea.
“It is the jewel in the crown of Kiama, the community is wanting to see that opened up,” he said.
“If Gareth wants it sterilised to the point locals can’t take advantage of it, that’s his view.
“The community has been consulted extensively at well-attended meetings in Gerrigong, Kiama and Jamberoo.”
The idea has been the talk of the town.
“I went to the bakery and two people just pulled over to tell me they support it,” Cr Brown said.
The concept is one of many listed in the tourism report, and one that may not be explored if it proves too challenging to develop.
