A funeral service will be held tomorrow to honour the valued life member of local show societies and Jamberoo Hockey Association.
Where: Christ Church Anglican, 2 Terralong Street, Kiama
When: Friday, July 13, 11am
Nancy was loving mother and mother in law Geoff and Pitsa, Bruce (deceased) and Leanne, and Brenda.
Mrs Waters was born at Brooklyn Hospital in Kiama. The Ward family were well-respected dairy farmers who farmed the 'Glengowie' property on Swamp Road at Dunmore, and according to Nancy's daughter, Brenda, her mother had always been someone who put her hand up to help.
"I suppose you could say mum is a professional volunteer, always happy to lend a helping hand wherever it is needed," she said.
In fact her record reads like a 'what's on' in the area and she boasted life membership of five associations.
She was a member of the Kiama Show Society for more than 50 years and served 15 as secretary. She was also a life member of the society and a patron of the South Coast and Tablelands Show Society.
In April, 2013, she received the Award of Excellence for Outstanding Contribution to the Country Show Movement in NSW.
When her three children, Geoffrey, Bruce and Brenda, were young, she was heavily involved with the Kiama Public School P&C and Mother's Club and was superintendent at Christ Church Anglican Church's Sunday School for 20 years.
Her involvement in the community also includes 28 years with the Order of the Amaranth, heavy involvement as a member of the Kiama Evening VIEW Club.
She was Jamberoo Hockey Club president for 20 years and South Coast Hockey Association vice-president, and held life memberships of both.
Her contributions to the community were again recognised when she was announced as the Kiama municipality's Citizen of the Year in 2003 and awarded an Order of Australia Medal in 2007.
Full obituary to come after the funeral service.
