Throughout the day, musicians of all ages performed a wide range of music for fellow members of the association, family and guests.
The Kiama Jamberoo String Orchestra performed in the historic sandstone chapel of the Uniting Church during the morning performance, conducted by well known violinist and music teacher, Dal Oldham. Many of Mr Oldham’s students also played, and their music was well received by an enthusiastic audience who filled the chapel to capacity.
After lunch, the Soundscape Chamber Group played in the hall adjoining the chapel, which has become a popular venue for musicians from around the district. Led by Heather Powrie, they played excerpts from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and a modern piece by the American composer Daniel Leo Simpson.
The Chamber Group was followed by the Tea & Roses Trio who performed to their usual high standard.
Bluegrass and Folk Music rounded out the event with some lively songs and tunes, as well as one or two that tugged at the heart-strings. The day drew to a close with a powerful rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah, with the audience joining in the final verse.
The Music Association always welcomes new members. If you are a musician or simply interested in music and would like to join in, please email KJcommunitymusic@bigpond for further information.
